Now that September is here, the New York Mets are doing what they can to lock down the NL East ahead of the MLB postseason. The Mets need all hands on deck to do so, leaving fans to wonder if injured starting pitcher Tylor Megill can return in time to help with that quest.

Megill, who last pitched in June, has been recovering from a right shoulder strain. Fortunately, the Mets' latest injury update regarding the 27-year-old has brought some much-needed positive news.

Tylor Megill Injury Update

Megill made his second rehab appearance with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday night. This time, it was in a relief role that the former Arizona product excelled at, striking out three batters on 19 pitches in his lone inning of work.

While Megill is typically an MLB starter, Mets insider Anthony DiComo seems to think that the Mets could use him out of the bullpen down the stretch. After all, he didn't look great in a starting role this season, recording a 5.01 ERA and 1.210 WHIP over nine starts.

Chances are that Megill can help the Mets more as a reliever than a starter. There isn't really much room for him in the rotation, anyway. He certainly won't usurp Max Scherzer or Jacob deGrom, while the likes of Chris Bassitt, Taijuan Walker and David Peterson have all been more reliable than Megill.

Hopefully, Megill's last rehab appearance was a sign of better things to come. He's a talented hurler when he's on his game and bouncing back might not only help the Mets win the NL East but potentially the World Series as well.

Mets World Series Odds

With September underway, the Mets are tied with the New York Yankees for the third-best (+480) 2022 World Series odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers (+290) and Houston Astros (+380) have better odds than either New York club.
