The Seattle Mariners have cooled off from their hot start to the season and are currently fighting to stay alive in the AL West division race. They sit 8.5 games back with a 35-36 record and recently got some bad news regarding starting pitcher Justin Dunn's latest injury update.

Justin Dunn Injury

Dunn was forced to leave his start on Thursday due to a discomfort in his throwing shoulder. This is concerning news given Dunn has already been on the injured list once this season because of shoulder inflammation. The Mariners are in trouble if this becomes a lingering issue for the young pitcher.

The 25-year-old righty will undergo an MRI on Friday to disclose the severity of the injury. His status remains up in the air for now as it is possible he just misses one turn in the rotation or needs to be placed back on the IL.

Dunn had been solid so far this season posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.311 WHIP across 11 starts. Overall, he has a 1-3 record on the year and has racked up 49 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched. The third-year starter looks to be locked into Seattle's rotation for years to come.

The Mariners' depth is already shallow, so it'll be interesting to see who takes Dunn's spot on the roster if an IL stint is needed. Seattle remains long shots to make the playoffs and have odds set +15000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
