Julio Rodriguez hasn't played since Friday due to a back injury, but the Seattle Mariners rookie made progress in his recovery over the weekend.

The AL Rookie of the Year frontrunner took 30-35 swings off a tee on Sunday and his back is "feeling better," according to Mariners manager Scott Servais.

While Rodriguez doesn't have a clear timetable for his return, a trip to the injured list seems unlikely based on his latest progress. The Mariners now have a 4.0-game cushion for the last AL Wild Card spot, but they'd still like to get their 21-year-old All-Star back sooner rather than later.

Rodriguez has played a key role in Seattle potentially reaching the postseason for the first time since 2001. The dynamic outfielder has 27 home runs and 25 stolen bases while batting .279/.343/.503. He's also been worth 5.7 WAR according to Baseball-Reference.

The Mariners lost both of their games without Rodriguez over the weekend, but they'll try to bounce back and avoid getting swept by the Los Angeles Angels today. Despite the recent skid, Seattle still has the fourth-best odds of winning the AL pennant (+850) on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
