The Las Vegas Raiders have had a busy offseason, and free agency isn't even over yet. While they have addressed a few areas of need already, lowering the cap hit for their backup quarterback spot was one that was still lingering, until Tuesday.

The potential of Mariota taking a pay cut was broached earlier in free agency, but nothing had been confirmed on how the quarterback would handle it.

Formerly carrying a cap hit of $7 million this season, the former No. 2 overall pick has decided to restructure his contract to a $3.5 million deal with the potential to make $8 million with incentives.

The move shows Mariota is committed to the Raiders and his role there. Considering how quickly the quarterback market dried up this offseason, there was a lot of uncertainty waiting out there for Mariota.

This move might end up earning Mariota less money this year, but it shows potential teams in the future he's a team-first guy and is willing to make sacrifices, which could very well turn into a bigger payday or better opportunity next offseason.
