The Miami Dolphins revamped their offense that past offseason by drafting wide receiver Jaylen Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. As if fans weren't already hyped up enough, the young pass-catcher is already thriving during training camp while taking on a surprising role.

Waddle has been impressing the coaching staff in his reps taken at outside receiver so far. It comes a surprise given the expectation that he would be a slot receiver on this offense. However, he is only playing out there because starters DeVante Parker and Will Fuller are still a bit banged up.

Reports claim the Dolphins also expect to take advantage of Waddle's athleticism in designed plays such as jet sweeps and wide receiver screens. The former Alabama Crimson Tide player could end up all over the field and has proven he has the speed to compete after posting a 4.37 40-yard dash.

The 22-year-old excelled over the course of his three college seasons racking up 2,016 yards from scrimmage and scoring 17 touchdowns in 34 games played. His versatility should come in handy for a Miami squad looking to improve on its 25.2 points per game average from last season (No. 15 in NFL).

It's worth keeping an eye on where Waddle lines up once everyone is healthy, but the rookie seems poised for a massive 2021-22 campaign.

The Dolphins currently have odds set at +118 to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, Waddle has odds set at +2200 to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
