Jalen Hurts Struggles Mightily on Second Day of Training Camp

Philadelphia Eagles fans have high hopes for the 2022 NFL season, but how far this team can truly go depends on the play of starting quarterback Jalen Hurts. The third-year pro has been up-and-down in training camp so far, excelling brightly on the first day and struggling mightily on the second day.

Not a lot of deep passes either #Eagles

Hurts reportedly completed just 8 of his 15 pass attempts for zero touchdowns and 1 interception during 11-on-11 drills Friday. The pick was an ugly one, too, as he forced a ball into double coverage. A lot of check-down throws and a lack of downfield passes summed up the day for the 23-year-old.
It was almost exactly opposite on what happened on Thursday when Hurts completed 12 of his 15 pass attempts for 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. His throws looked crisp as he connected with wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on outside, inside and deep routes all day long.
This is a situation Philadelphia fans became familiar with in 2021. Hurts accounted for at least one rushing touchdown in five games last season, but also passed for under 200 yards in a game nine times. Finding a level of consistency between passing and rushing is a must heading into the fall.
Head coach Nick Sirianni has adamantly praised Hurts for his accuracy, timing and communication growth this offseason. It'll be interesting to see if he can showcase those skill before Week 1 arrives. The Eagles have odds set at +3000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
