The Jacksonville Jaguars will look a lot different in the fall with new head coach Urban Meyer leading a squad headlined by a rookie quarterback in Trevor Lawrence. However, it is second-year wide receiver Laviska Shenault that is turning heads during OTAs.
Shenault's play has been impressive so far and Sports Illustrated's John Shipley even went as far as saying he "staked a claim as the Jaguars' best skill player during OTAs." Coaches are reportedly "buzzing" over Shenault's ability to haul in every pass thrown to him and break tackles over the middle of the field.
The 22-year-old wideout made an immediate impact during his rookie season in 2020 as he ranked first on the team in receptions (58), third in receiving yards (600), and third in targets (79). Shenault especially thrives on quick routes from the slot position that get him the ball right away.
Jacksonville knows that Shenault still has some untapped potential heading into the fall, but it'll be interesting to see where he ranks on the WR depth chart. D.J. Chark remains the No. 1 option in the passing game and 2021 first-round pick Travis Etienne is expected to be a target machine as well.
All things considered, this Jaguars' offense is suddenly full of dynamic playmakers and could see a major improvement from the 19.1 points per game it averaged last year (No. 30 in the NFL). Shenault is a player to keep an eye on during training camp as he continues to gain NFL experience.
