The Cleveland Browns are in danger of missing the playoffs for the second season in a row. While there's still a month left of regular season football, the franchise will already begin thinking about next steps and a busy offseason ahead.
One pressing item on the Browns' agenda is a decision regarding Jack Conklin's upcoming free agency. Conklin hits the open market after the season and spoke emotionally on Tuesday about his future in Cleveland.
Conklin declared that Cleveland will be his "home forever" but the situation is very much up in the air. "We'll see what happens... this is the place I definitely want to be."
The main issue for Conklin's future, aside from his lack of a contract, is the emergence of James Hudson. Hudson, a second-year pro from Cincinnati, started the first two weeks of the season in Conklin's absence from injury and some reports suggest the franchise could name his the starting right tackle next year and beyond. His rookie contract doesn't expire until 2025.
The Browns have a decision to make, but if it's up to Conklin, he'll remain atop the depth chart and on the roster next year and beyond. Only time will tell.
