Cincinnati Bengals rookie wideout Ja'Marr Chase has looked like the NFL's best wide receiver in recent weeks, totaling 18 receptions for 391 yards and three touchdowns in his last two games alone.

While Chase has already been impressive as it is, the 21-year-old has an opportunity to break a 61-year-old rookie receiving record in Week 18.

Ja'Marr Chase Rookie Record

Chase has a total of 1,429 receiving yards in his first year of NFL action. That puts him just 45 yards away from breaking the previous rookie receiving record, which was previously set by former Houston Oilers WR Bill Groman with 1,473 in the 1960 AFL season.

Considering how Chase has finished with at least 52 yards in four of his last five games, breaking the record seems incredibly feasible. With that being said, there are a few factors that may prevent him from making history.

For starters, the Bengals will be sitting quarterback Joe Burrow for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. That means Chase would have to catch balls from Brandon Allen, which would be a downgrade.

Another factor is that the Bengals could also choose to sit Chase. The last thing Cincinnati would want is to see their star wideout get hurt if they force him the ball to break the record. Even if he does play, he could be on a limited snap count.

Whether or not he plays in Week 18, Chase could end the 2021 NFL season on a high note. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently favoring the electric pass-catcher to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors at -250 odds.
