The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense is scary. That unit flashed big-time potential throughout 2019 and teased fans with more of the same through five games in 2020. But Todd Bowles' defense finally put it all together in Week 6, holding the league's No. 1 scoring offense to 10 points and making two-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers look pedestrian (at best).
In fact, the stats show that Tampa Bay might be able to ride this defense all the way to the Super Bowl.
Through six games, Tampa Bay became one of two teams in the past 20 seasons to force 10-plus turnovers and record 20-plus sacks while holding opponents under 70.0 rushing yards per game. The 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers are the only other team that has accomplished that feat.
Of course, Pittsburgh would go on to win the Super Bowl that year. Interestingly, the Steelers offensive coordinator in 2008 was Bucs head coach Bruce Arians. That's certainly a good omen for Tampa Bay's Super Bowl chances.
Tampa Bay is currently tied with the division-rival New Orleans Saints (+1300) for the sixth-best odds to win the Super Bowl., according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
