Has there been a second-round series more entertaining than the Golden Knights and Avalanche as they head into a crucial Game 5 in Denver? Most wrote Vegas off after being pushed to the limit by Minnesota in Round 1 and subsequently having their helmets handed to them by the Avs in Game 1.  Since that 7-1 drubbing in Colorado, the Knights have turned a switch and dominated the Avs. 

Even in their 3-2 overtime loss in Game 2, Vegas outshot the Avs 41-25 and started in the offensive zone 53.6% of the game. Game 3 looked like the trend of Vegas outplaying the Avs but coming up short on the scoresheet was to continue before the Knights got a few fortuitous bounces late. Despite firing 43 shots at Philipp Grubauer, Jonathan Marchessault's bank shot off the goaltender's leg from behind the net was what tied it with just over five minutes remaining. Max Pacioretty followed the puck-luck theme 45 seconds later with the game-winner off a redirect from a harmless-looking Nick Holden shot from the point.  

Two days later, the Knights turned chances and shots into goals, many of them. Vegas had their most convincing win of the series to knot things at two on Sunday. After spotting Colorado a 1-0 lead on Brandon Saad's sixth of the playoffs just two minutes into the game, Vegas potted five unanswered. Marchessault completed his first-ever playoff hat-trick by putting the game out of reach at 4-1 in the third period. Linemate William Karlsson had the assists hat-trick while Max Pacioretty continued to provide Vegas the scoring they were missing in the first round. The Knights leading goal scorer in the regular season picked up his third of these playoffs in just five games. Pacioretty returned to score in Game 7 against the Wild after missing nearly a month. 

Colorado's top-line of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen was shut out for the first time in these playoffs, as the league's top defense held the Avs to just 18 shots in Game 4. MacKinnon, who leads all postseason skaters with eight goals, hasn't notched a point in two straight. Don't expect that trend to continue. 

Vegas should keep this momentum going, but it's hard to imagine the Avs offense doesn't pick up the pace, so the over looks good for this one. The Knights have way too much value based on their play over the past three games to ignore. Remember, almost 80 percent of teams that win Game 5 in a tied series go on to win the set. This game couldn't be any bigger. 

The favorite has won six of seven and the home team four straight between Vegas and Colorado. Vegas has won just three of 10 in Colorado, and the under is 7-3 in their past 10 meetings. The Golden Knights are 11-2 in their past 13 after allowing two or fewer goals, while Colorado has won 12 of 14 following a loss of three or more.
