An unfortunate thumb fracture led to Brandon Belt's impressive 2021 campaign ending just days before the postseason. This was the second lengthy injury of Belt's season, although the veteran San Francisco Giants first baseman slashed .274/.378/.597 with 29 home runs and 59 RBIs in just 97 games.
Now with a fresh start to the 2022 regular season, Giants fans will hate to hear Belt's name popping back up on the injury report.
Brandon Belt Injury Update
The Giants' latest Spring Training injury report revealed Belt is now dealing with right knee inflammation. He is still participating in full baseball workouts, but his status for Opening Day is now officially questionable.
Belt missed a month of action last year with an injury to the same knee.
This is obviously an injury worth monitoring for Giants' camp. Even entering his age-34 season, the previous two seasons of Belt's career prove just how important he is to the San Francisco starting nine.
He's put together an impressive .285/.393/.595 slash line while hammering 38 home runs, 89 RBIs and a fierce .988 OPS in 148 games dating back to 2020.
