The 2022 MLB season has come to a conclusion, meaning front offices around the league are now going to start shifting attention to offseason free agents. 131 players were officially declared as free agents on Sunday, including five Boston Red Sox pros that made an notable impact this past summer.

Boston Red Sox Free Agency

JD Martinez is the only Boston slugger to enter free agency this offseason after he slashed a respectable .274/.341/.448 to go along with 76 runs scored, 16 home runs and 62 RBI in 139 games. His career-high mark of 43 doubles also finished tied for the second-most in the American League.

Veterans Nathan Eovaldi and Rich Hill will search for a new home after putting together successful campaigns on the mound. Eovaldi missed some time due to injuries, but ended the year with a 3.87 ERA. Meanwhile, Hill struck out 109 batters across 124.1 innings (26 starts) as a back-end starter.

Reliever Matt Strahm is also no longer under contract after he logged a 3.83 ERA across 50 games. The biggest loss may be starting pitcher Michael Wacha, though. Wacha broke out this year by posting a 3.32 ERA and finishing with a 11-2 record. His 3.3 WAR ranked third among Red Sox players.

It's important to note that one other name is worth keeping an eye on for Boston fans. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts is widely expected to opt out of his current contract and enter free agency as one of the biggest names on the market. Losing the four-time All-Star would be a devastating blow.

For now, the Red Sox have odds set at +4000 to win the 2023 World Series, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
