FanDuel and SportsGrid Acquire Rob Perez

FanDuel and SportsGrid have announced the hiring of Rob Perez, or as most NBA fans know him, World Wide Wob. Perez has engrained himself in the online NBA community, especially on Twitter, where he boasts more than half a million followers.

Wob's content will appear across various FanDuel platforms as part of its partnership with SportsGrid.

The move comes only a couple months after FanDuel inked an expanded partnership with Pat McAfee, the former Colts punter, and another massive influencer in the sports media and betting space.

Bringing in Perez shows FanDuel is doubling down on a model of bringing in massive online sports personalities that can help them bridge the gap between sports media and sports betting, as the two continue to grow closer by the day.

While the McAfee partnership has been wildly successful, FanDuel believes Perez comes along with many of the same advantages and with specific targeting to NBA fans. Perez is, after all, the unofficial president of #NBATwitter.

Perez had a number of attractions to the new deal with FanDuel, but his desire to have a professionally produced late-night NBA show was one that really stood out to him.

I have always had this vision of a late-night NBA show. Like Letterman or Fallon with a monologue and prerecorded skits. I do it on Periscope now, but it’s janky. I want to revolutionize the way it’s consumed, integrating comments from viewers with the production value of linear TV.

While Perez doesn't plan to switch up his content to gambling centric, he now has the ability to work it into his segments and videos, and FanDuel's lines will be what he uses.
