Alex Cora says there's a pretty good chance Eduardo Rodríguez begins the season on the injured list. The Boston Red Sox manager is leaning toward having his pitcher start the season off the active roster as a precaution rather than start in the fifth game to give him extra time.

Eduardo Rodriguez Injury Update

The 27-year-old southpaw threw a 36-pitch bullpen on Saturday in his first throwing session since experiencing a "dead arm" issue in his last Grapefruit League outing earlier this week.

He's already been scratched from his scheduled Opening Day start, and the Red Sox appear to want to take their time with their young lefty. The team wants to see him face hitters again before clearing him to return, so they'll wait until he's ready to do so before bringing him back to start the year.

Rodriguez won 19 games for Boston back in 2019 when he also pitched over 200 innings, striking out 213 batters and sporting an ERA under four.

At FanDuel Sportsbook, the Red Sox are +290 to make the playoffs, and the more games they have Rodriguez on the mound, the better chance they'll have at coming through.
