One of the Philadelphia Eagles' biggest weaknesses in the 2019 season was the wide receiver corps. The group didn't have a ton of talent to start with, and then when injuries happened, a lack of depth became obvious.
Philly has gone a long way to address the problem this offseason, drafting three wideouts (including Jalen Reagor in Round 1) and signing free agent speedster Marquise Goodwin.
Goodwin's first move with the Eagles may be a bad omen, however.
Goodwin will rock number 13, which is the jersey that Nelson Agholor just vacated when he left in free agency. Agholor was a big part of the offensive struggles in the 2019 season.
Forced into a starting role when Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson got hurt, the 2015 draft bust hauled in just 39 receptions on 69 targets, averaging a career worst 5.3 yards per target for the year.
Goodwin is a completely different type of player from Agholor, however. While Agholor usually works on short passes (9.3 yards per catch in 2019), Goodwin works downfield (15.5 yards per catch in 2019). Even though he's making bigger plays, he still managed to be more consistent than Agholor as well, with a 57.1 percent catch rate (compared to 56.5 percent from Agholor).
Eagles fans need to cross their fingers, grab their good-luck charms and hope that No. 13 proves to be a lucky one for Goodwin.
