Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard is one the most impactful coverage players across the entire league. His standout play once again in 2020 helped Miami have one of the best secondaries in the NFL, and the Dolphins will be happy to have him leading their defense for years to come.

However, Howard has made his stance on a new contract clear.

Head coach Brian Flores said he doesn't expect the CB to attend the team's minicamp that kicked off on Tuesday due to his "contract situation." Howard is certainly sending a message by holding out from mandatory workouts.

The two-time Pro Bowler inked a five-year extension with the Dolphins in 2019 worth a little over $75 million. However, players at his position (like teammate Byron Jones) continue to see their salaries climb, and Howard wants in on the action.

It makes sense, even despite his recent extension. Howard tallied a league-high 10 interceptions and 20 passes defensed in 2020, which earned him a First Team All-Pro nod. He has leverage after that dominant showing, and Miami may need to pay up to make sure their star corner is happy heading into training camp.
