The Miami Dolphins made a splash during Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, swinging deals for stud pass-rusher Bradley Chubb and veteran running back Jeff Wilson Jr. One thing fans are wondering about following those additions is if they'll be able to play right away in Week 9.
Head coach Mike McDaniel provided some exciting news on that topic Wednesday.
McDaniel told reporters that both Chubb and Wilson will play on Sunday. It'll be a short turnaround after switching teams mid-week, but the acquisitions should be able to get in some practice time before this weekend's game against the Chicago Bears.
The arrival of Chubb is huge for a Miami defense that's struggled to get to the quarterback. The Dolphins' 15.0 sacks are tied for the fifth-lowest total in the league, and they also rank fourth-worst in pressure percentage. Chubb, who already has 5.5 sacks this year, will immediately elevate their pass rush.
Wilson, meanwhile, provides a much better fit at RB2 than Chase Edmonds, who went to Denver in the deal for Chubb. He's more than capable of stepping up as a starter if Raheem Mostert is sidelined at any point, plus he's familiar with McDaniel from their days in San Francisco.
Dolphins fans should be amped up to see this re-tooled roster in action on Sunday in Chicago. Miami enters that contest as a 5-point road favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
