It's been an up-and-down year for Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner. On one hand, he's pitching to a 5.73 ERA in 12 starts and isn't the same pitcher from his days with the San Francisco Giants. Still, he also recorded an unofficial no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves during a 7-inning double header.

Bumgarner and the Diamondbacks received some troubling news on Thursday night when Arizona placed the left-hander on the 10-day IL due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

The four-time All-Star left Wednesday's start against the New York Mets early after just two innings of work. This is always a troubling sign for starting pitchers and the Diamondbacks immediately followed with an MRI on Thursday. The MRI revealed this shoulder inflammation before Bumgarner landed on the IL.

It's already been a rough year in Arizona and this news doesn't help. The Diamondbacks sit in last-place in the NL West with a 20-38 overall record. FanDuel Sportsbook also gives Arizona just +30000 odds to win the NL West, according to the latest MLB odds.

Arizona fans may already have their eyes set on next season after this troubling start.
