NFL training camps are full of storylines for all 32 teams across the league. For the Philadelphia Eagles, there's been no bigger storyline than the injury scare suffered by rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Earlier in August, Smith suffered a knee sprain and was officially listed as week-to-week. But, Eagles fans can breath a huge sigh of relief. Despite the concern of leg injuries for wide receivers, it looks like Smith is making big strides in his recovery.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni announced on Saturday that Smith's injury status was upgraded to day-to-day.

Better yet, the dynamic rookie had a helmet on during Saturday morning's practice and was seen increasing his conditioning work.

DeVonta Smith Injury Update

Smith enters his rookie campaign with lofty expectations, both personally and from the team. So far, it's been nothing but good news aside from this injury scare. The former Alabama Crimson Tide wideout received glowing reviews during Philadelphia's rookie minicamp in May.

It's easy to see why Philadelphia thinks so highly of their newest wideout. Smith won the Heisman Trophy his final year at Alabama after recording 117 receptions, 1,856 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns in 2020.

The passing game was an issue in Philly last season and Smith could go a long way in changing that. The Eagles averaged 207.9 passing yards per game in 2020, which ranked fifth-worst in the NFL.

Currently, Smith holds +1700 odds to win the NFL Rookie of the Year award on FanDuel Sportsbook, which ranks eighth overall and third amongst non-quarterbacks.
