David Montgomery Injury Update Raises Uncertainty Around Week 11 Fantasy Outlook

It took some time, but David Montgomery has been rounding into form as a strong fantasy football option in the Chicago Bears backfield lately. The last three games have seen him average 78.3 rushing yards and 1.0 touchdowns on 19.3 carries (while adding 16.0 receiving yards on 3.0 targets) per game.

He suffered a mid-week ankle injury ahead of this weekend's matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, though, clouding his fantasy outlook for Week 11.

A "lightly rolled" ankle isn't a huge concern, and there's still a good chance he is full-go by Sunday night.

It is worth noting, however, that his volume had already started to drop off slightly in Week 10. His 17 opportunities were his fewest in the last three weeks, and his 60 percent snap share was a sharp drop from his 74 percent in Week 8 and 73 percent in Week 9.

This Bears' offense isn't explosive enough to support two fantasy-relevant backs most weeks, but if Montgomery can't go then look for Tarik Cohen to get a nice boost while there may still be some rushing volume available for another back.

Tarik Cohen Fantasy Outlook Week 11

Cohen was the only other RB to touch the ball last week (three carries, four receptions), and before this recent Montgomery breakout he'd averaged 7.2 targets and only 3.3 rush attempts per game.

With Mike Davis released, Ryan Nall could also be in line for some of that rushing volume after being signed and playing exclusively on special teams in his Week 10 debut.

As things stand, however, it's still pretty safe to assume that Montgomery will suit up. He gets a tough matchup against a Rams D that ranks third against the run in Football Outsiders' DVOA rankings, but he still checks in at RB16 in our Week 11 PPR fantasy football rankings.
