The Detroit Lions averaged just 93.7 rushing yards per game last season, which was the third-worst mark in the NFL. They need improvement from that part of the roster and head coach Dan Campbell recently admitted that the team is interested in signing a former All-Pro ball carrier in free agency.

Todd Gurley Lions

The Lions originally hosted Todd Gurley on a visit this past week, but he did not leave the premises with any kind of signed deal. However, that doesn't mean that these two parties cannot come to some sort of agreement later on. Campbell expressed how the team has had talks with Gurley's agent.

Gurley is just 26 years old, but has seemingly gone through a sudden downward slide in his career. He has rushed for 1,535 yards over the last two seasons, but is averaging just 3.7 yards per carry during that span. However, he has found the end zone 21 times since the start of 2019.

There is also a connection between Gurley and the Lions' front office. Detroit's general manager Brad Holmes was working in the Los Angeles Rams organization at the same time Gurley was on the roster. He saw the running back at his best and could be looking to take a chance on the former Pro Bowler.

If Gurley was signed, he would join a crowded running back room that includes the likes of D'Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams and rookie Jermar Jefferson. He would likely be a depth signing at this point, but Gurley could have an outside shot to fight his way up the pecking order with consistent play.
