A lack of consistency has led to the Chicago Cubs not really making an impact on the 2022 MLB season. Although they're only six games below .500, they're still 8.0 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central Division lead.

However, the Cubs have won six of their last nine games and are starting to build momentum. Their efforts haven't gone unnoticed, proven by their small rise in the latest ESPN MLB power rankings.

A five-game losing streak saw the Cubs fall from No. 21 to 24 last week. However, their small resurgence has seen them rise to No. 23 in ESPN's latest MLB power rankings.

Ian Happ has been one of the best players during the Cubs' nine-game run. He has 10 hits, a home run and five RBIs while batting .323/.432/.533 over that stretch. Wilson Contreras and Frank Schwindel also share the team lead with five RBIs apiece over that stretch while batting at least .281.

The Cubs have also been getting solid play from their pitchers. Relievers Scott Effross, Conner Menez and Daniel Morris haven't allowed a single run in their last 7.0 innings pitched, while starter Kyle Hendrick has a 0.63 ERA with nine strikeouts in 14.1 IP over his last two starts.

Climbing back into the NL Central race is going to be tough, but the Cubs are fortunate enough to have over 120 games remaining on their schedule. It'll still be an uphill battle, though, proven by FanDuel Sportsbook giving them +4000 odds (No. 3) to win their division in 2022.
