In Week 3 the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys found themselves in historic company, both being favored by more than three touchdowns heading into home matchups against the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, respectively.
The Jets, however, lucked their way into two touchdowns to close the game. The first came off a fumble recovery after a muffed punt late in the third quarter, followed by a Jamal Adams pick six on Jarrett Stidham, who came in to relieve Tom Brady in the 4th quarter. The final score was 30-14, with the Pats winning, but failing to cover the lofty spread.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys line rose all the way to 22.5, as they faced a Dolphins team that was outscored by 92 combined points heading into Week 3. However, in opposite fashion of the Patriots-Jets game, it was the Cowboys who struggled early, heading into halftime with just a 10-6 lead over the Dolphins.
Dallas went on to score 21 unanswered points in the second half, as Miami struggled to establish any form of offense in their second straight week without a touchdown.
The Dolphins have now just scored one touchdown through three weeks, while their defense has given up a massive amount of yardage and touchdowns both via the air and on the ground. Next up for the Fins in Week 4 is a home date with the Los Angeles Chargers, who figure to be at least double-digit favorites in Miami.
Teams that are 21-plus point favorites are now 37-0 all-time straight up, but just 12-23-2 against the spread.
