Chiefs Missed Out on Intriguing Free Agent Tight End Prospect

The Kansas City Chiefs have an already historic talent at tight end in Travis Kelce, and he's helped their offense be among the league's best in recent years. But KC hasn't been shy about pursuing additional weapons in free agency, especially with Sammy Watkins heading to Baltimore.

The Chiefs were in the hunt to pair intriguing tight end prospect Sammis Reyes with Kelce, but he signed with the Washington Football Team before they had a chance to meet.

Reyes held an impressive pro day on March 31 that got scouts interested in his potential. He's 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds with a reported 40-inch vertical, making him a huge target who could make a splash after giving up on his NBA dreams for the NFL.

With Kelce at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, the Chiefs know how a big-body tight end can wreak havoc on the field. It would've been at least worth a flier to see the pairing of Reyes and Kelce on the field together with Patrick Mahomes under center. However, Reyes chose Washington given their proximity.

Kansas City is still in search of added offensive options to surround Maomes with this offseason, although they'll have a prime opportunity to add a playmaker with the No. 31 pick in this year's draft.
