The Minnesota Twins are struggling to stay afloat in the AL Central division with a current record of 19-29. One major reason they have not been able to produce enough runs at the plate is the absence of outfielder Byron Buxton for the better part of May. Well, his most recent injury rehab update is just more bad news for the Twins.
Byron Buxton Injury Update
Buxton has been on the injured list since May 7th due to hip strain, but was expected to go on a rehab assignment in the minor leagues by the end of the week. However, it seems like that has now been delayed as Buxton is having trouble decelerating when he runs.
The 27-year-old still has some hurdles to clear before he can return to live action, which is a shame given his dominant start to the season. Buxton was slashing .370/.408/.772 through the first 24 games of the season for the Twins. He also hit 9 home runs and stole five bags during that span.
Buxton is the kind of player that relies on his elite speed to be productive both defensively and at the plate. It simply wouldn't help him or the team to rush back into action before he is 100% healthy.
The Twins are starting to turn things around winning four of their last five games, but are still longshots to make the postseason. Minnesota has odds set at +980 to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
