The Denver Broncos head into the offseason looking to break a six-year playoff drought. With a defense that consistently instills fear in opponents, finding a reliable quarterback is priority No. 1 for new head coach Nathaniel Hackett and his staff.
Fortunately, the Broncos have an opportunity to address that need in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. The draft process kicks off this week with the annual combine, and the Broncos have already lined up meetings with a trio of exciting quarterback prospects.
Mike Klis of KUSA reported the Broncos' plans to meet with Pittsburgh QB Kenny Pickett, Ole Miss' Matt Corral and Liberty's Malik Willis during combine week.
All three of these standout collegiate gunslingers are potential first-round picks and bring various strengths and weaknesses to the table, notably Pickett's progression, Corral's playmaking and Willis' sheer athleticism and arm strength.
Denver enters the NFL Draft with the No. 9 overall pick and are expected to make their first QB draft selection since Drew Lock back in 2019.
Lock and Teddy Bridgewater ultimately failed at winning over the Broncos' QB1 role last year as the team ranked just 19th in passing yards per game (211.4) and 18th in completion percentage (65.4%). Bridgewater struggled with a 47.4 QBR in 14 starts, while Lock was unimpressive (2 TDs to 2 INTs) in his brief appearances across six games.
