The Milwaukee Brewers haven't made much noise in free agency this offseason. In fact, Milwaukee is now the only team that hasn't signed a player to a major league deal so far after the Miami Marlins inked shortstop Jean Segura.
The Brewers' recent Minor League signing is notable, at the very least, due to his previous connection to the franchise.
Milwaukee has agreed to a deal with veteran reliever Alex Claudio. The contract includes an invitation to Spring Training where he'll have a chance to crack the Opening Day roster.
This is a homecoming of sorts for Claudio, who spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Brewers. The 2019 campaign was a career highlight for the reliever, as his 83 appearances led the entire majors.
Overall, Claudio finishes his two-year stint in Milwaukee with a 2-2 record and 4.11 ERA over 81.0 total innings. He then spent the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Angels before playing sparingly for the New York Mets in 2022.
The almost 31-year-old at least provides the Brewers with a much-needed bullpen depth option. His sizable usage in 2019 showed he's trusted by manager Craig Counsell, so it'd be no surprise to see Claudio get some run in Milwaukee once again.
