After earning the No. 8 seed in the expanded 2020 MLB postseason, things haven't been going quite as smoothly for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021. Despite an MVP-level performance from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays are just 31-29 overall and sit in fourth place in the AL East.

Fortunately for Toronto, the team will be getting back one of their young stars after a trip to the injured list. It's been reported that third baseman Cavan Biggio could rejoin the squad as early as this weekend's four-game series with the division rival Boston Red Sox.

Cavan Biggio Injury

Biggio's been sidelined since since May 22 with a cervical spine ligament sprain. However, he's been on rehab assignment with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons, since Sunday.

Biggio didn't get off to the best start in his first two months of MLB action this season, slashing just .205/.315/.315 with only 3 home runs and 11 RBIs. Hopefully for Toronto, he'll return healthy and get back to top form.

Right now, the Blue Jays are longshots to win the AL East with just +550 odds, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Biggio is an important key to this lineup and a healthy return could help this team make some noise down the stretch.
