With Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season nearing closer, teams across the league will have to start making tough roster decisions. The Buffalo Bills are no different and need to figure out the pecking order at tight end. It's a pecking order that could send one 2022 free-agent signing packing already.

Buffalo Bills News

Doug Kyed of ProFootballFocus says OJ Howard is in danger of being cut before he even takes a regular season snap for the Bills. Howard was labeled as a "faller" in training camp earlier this summer and only saw one snap during the opening quarter of Buffalo's second preseason game.

Keep in mind Howard was also on the field late in the Bills' first preseason game, which was unusual to say the least. He appeared in 23 snaps overall and garnered just one target (0 catches). This is a move that would give Buffalo some breathing room in the form of $2.25 million saved against the cap.

It's an action that would also open the door for rookie Quintin Morris to take the No. 2 spot behind Dawson Knox. Morris has bested Howard with a PFF grade of 77.8 through two preseason games. Tommy Sweeney has been praised as a great locker room guy by multiple Buffalo coaches, too.

Howard is looking to bounce back after an Achilles injury derailed his 2020 season and the presence of Rob Gronkowski derailed his 2021 season. The 2017 first-round pick has one last shot to prove why he deserves a spot on the team when the Bills take on the Carolina Panthers on Friday night.

Buffalo remains the Super Bowl favorite with odds set at +600 to win it all, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
