Bears Fans Are Not Buying Matt Eberflus' Latest Justin Fields Comments

The Chicago Bears seemed downright scared to pass the ball during their Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. While the run game did provide some nice results, that should've opened up more passing opportunities as well. Instead, the Bears became predictable, posting 27 rushing attempts to just 11 passing tries.
Matt Eberflus' reluctance to utilize quarterback Justin Fields as a passer raised eyebrows on Sunday night, and Bears fans aren't buying the head coach's latest comments on his signal-caller.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus says the team is not taking a deliberately conservative approach to the passing game with QB Justin Fields.

Eberflus claimed on Monday the team isn't deliberately using a more conservative attack with Fields under center. That's just hard to believe at this point.
The second-year QB posted nearly as many rushing attempts (8) as he did passing (11), with the Bears calling several designed runs instead of throws to move the sticks.

It's surprising to see Fields get the training-wheels treatment when he was drafted No. 11 overall in 2021 due in part to his impressive arm. Though his prolific college numbers haven't exactly translated to the pros, he's also been held back by coaching and the talent around him.
The hope was a new staff would unlock the obvious talent in Fields waiting to be unearthed. Instead, it appears new playcaller Luke Getsy isn't confident in letting Fields loose just yet.
Something will need to change if Chicago is to keep up with the high-powered offenses around the league. Leaning into the run game resulted in the Bears trailing by double digits for most of the night against a Packers team not even close to clicking on all cylinders yet.
Thankfully, Week 3 presents an opportunity to get Fields, Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet more involved against the Houston Texans. Chicago is a 2.5-point home favorite in that matchup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
