Heading into Week 1 of the NFL regular season, some questions remained around the Chicago Bears linebacker depth. Chicago curiously held seven inside linebackers on the 53-man roster including a trio of veterans vying for starting roles.

The linebacker depth chart cleared up a bit on Wednesday as the Bears were dealt some bad injury news surrounding Danny Trevathan. The 31-year-old veteran linebacker is likely headed to the injured reserve for the start of the season.

With this news, Alec Ogletree is now poised to start alongside Roquan Smith. The pair of Smith and Trevathan were one of the most lethal linebacker duos in the league in 2020, combining for 252 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 2 forced fumbles.

It's unclear the exact length of Trevathan's absence, but he'll miss at least three games to start the year. Fortunately, Ogletree has impressed enough in training camp to step in nicely into this role.

Chicago enters Week 1 of the regular season as 7-point underdogs at the Los Angeles Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
