The Detroit Lions' offense is set to look a lot different in the fall as the team lost both of its top wide receivers to free agency in the offseason. The opportunity is there for somebody to step up and take over a starting role and it looks like rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown is doing everything he can to lock up a spot.

Lions News

St. Brown was Detroit's fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and continues to do all the right things during training camp. The rookie is even staying after practice to put in extra reps with whatever player is willing to work with him. That level of commitment should excite Lions fans.

The former USC Trojan excelled over three college seasons by racking up 2,339 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns on 187 touches. St. Brown brought some of that excitement to practice on Monday when he sent spectators into a frenzy after hurdling a defender attempting to tackle him.

The Lions' WR depth chart isn't exactly filled with standout players right now. Veterans Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman may be the only ones keeping St. Brown from having a monster rookie season. However, they work on the outside while St. Brown looks to take over the starting slot WR role.

St. Brown is capable of playing physical tough-nosed football and that fits the mentality of head coach Dan Campbell to a tee. Keep an eye on the 21-year-old for the next few weeks as he attempts to solidify his role before Week 1 kickoff comes on Sept. 12.

The Lions currently have odds set at +620 to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
