The Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of an air-tight playoff race in the Western Conference, but that isn't going to last long if they keep clanking shots at the charity stripe.
Just look at DeAndre Jordan, the man who has been laughed at for years because of his inability to shoot free throws. He has a better percentage from the line this season than the Lakers.
This puts the #Lakers' free-throw shooting woes into perspective. DeAndre Jordan is a career 45.9% free-throw shooter. This season he's improved shooting 68.8%. That's better than Lonzo Ball (42%), Brandon Ingram (62%), Rajon Rondo (62%), & LeBron James (68.2%) thus far.— Ryan Ward (@RyanWardLA) January 14, 2019
The Lakers are dead last in free throw percentage at 68.3 on the season. To compare the Lakers to Jordan once again, there are just four players on the entire roster that are shooting better than the Mavericks' big man at the line. Those included are Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, with the latter two attempting under 100 free throws on the season.
Brandon Ingram (62.2%) and the Lakers (69.2%) know they need to get better from the free throw line, where they’re last in the NBA in percentage and 24th (tied w/BOS) in makes (16.1). pic.twitter.com/EYuKynLRJD— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) January 1, 2019
People want to blame LeBron James for his misses at the line when it counts, and deservedly so, but it goes beyond just him. The entire roster is laughable at the stripe, making Markelle Fultz look like James Harden.
If the Lakers don't remedy this plague, they're going to find themselves struggling to win important games come April.
