Todd Gurley has been the best fantasy running back this season by a considerable margin, but the fantasy football universe chose a pretty inconvenient time to see him injured. Unfortunately, fantasy owners of the All-Pro back may be without him once again, but this time on the most important fantasy weekend of the year.

Gurley didn't participate in practice Wednesday afternoon due to inflammation in his left knee, putting his status for the Los Angeles Rams' season finale against the San Francisco 49ers into question. He did, however, do some significant work with the training staff.

Despite him not participating in practice, Rams head coach Sean McVay is optimistic that Gurley will be ready to go this weekend, which should revive his fantasy owners' hopes to a certain extent. However, it never hurts to err on the side of caution and check the waiver wire for a possible replacement.

There's a coin-flip chance that C.J. Anderson is still available after outperforming some of Gurley's best numbers in Week 16, but it's more likely than not that he's already been snatched up. At this point, the best bet might be taking a chance on the likes of Brian Hill, Darren Sproles, or Justin Wilson Jr.
