Fairwell Miami — Le'Veon Bell (@LeVeonBell) November 5, 2018
Le’Veon Bell must report to the Steelers by Tuesday Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. or he will be ineligible to play for the remainder of the 2018 season, under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Clock is running; Bell is not.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 5, 2018
The success of former-backup running back James Conner is likely something Bell wasn't planning on adding pressure for him to return to Pittsburgh this season. But the second-year standout has done more than just fill in nicely during Bell's absence. Conner has actually performed at a higher level.
James Conner now has more TDs thru #Steelers’ first 8 games than Le’Veon did last year (10 to 5), more missed tackles (51 to 35) on fewer touches (190 to 229), and has 8 carries of 20+ yds (Le’Veon had 3 all last year). At this point, what is Conner not giving you?— Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) November 5, 2018
If this potential return wasn't provoked from pressure to start collecting the millions of dollars Bell was forfeiting during this holdout, having a rookie running back that was his backup come out and dominate in his place may have certainly done the trick.
Even if this cryptic, brief announcement is the precursor to a Week 10 return for Bell to Pittsburgh, Conner's fantasy owners shouldn't lose any sleep -- at least for Week 10. The chances of Bell miraculously making it back to the field in time for Pittsburgh's Thursday night contest with the Carolina Panthers is slim to none following this prolonged absence.
The recent dominance of Conner should be more than enough to ensure to assure a role moving forward, albeit potentially a smaller one, but don't hesitate to start him as an RB1 again this week.
