The best rivalry in sports takes center stage as the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees begin a five-game series tonight in Beantown. The Yankees advanced to this spot by defeating the Oakland A's, 7-2, in the AL Wild Card game, while the Red Sox sat back with the best record in baseball waiting on their opponent.

Odds: The Red Sox are the rightful favorites in this series at -178. They edged the Yankees, 10-9, in the season series, but home field advantage was lopsided in each team's favor. The Red Sox went 7-3 at home against the Yankees and outscored them 76-48. The Yankees went 6-3 and outscored the Red Sox 54-40. Clearly, home field is a big factor in this rivalry, and as the Red Sox get 3-of-5 at home, they deservedly are favored.
Interesting Stats: As mentioned, Red Sox narrowly won the season series 10-9, but they did drop four of their last six against the Yankees down the stretch. While the season series was tight, the actual games were not -- of the 19 meetings, seven of them were decided by seven runs or more, while only four were decided by two runs or less.
Best Prop Bets: Red Sox Win By More Than 4 Runs (+280)
Usually you'd see higher odds on something like this, but as mentioned, most of these games were blowouts. If everything holds in terms of performance this year, this bet does make sense. Of course, it's now October, and we all know games tend to be lower scoring and tighter. But if you're backing the Red Sox and looking for some more favorable odds, this makes sense.
