And the New England Patriots' backfield circus continues.

Thursday proved to be just the latest chapter of a 2018-19 Patriots season plagued by running back injuries. Even more bad news on running back Rex Burkhead's concussion recovery came today, prompting New England to sign another back in Kenjon Barner.

Burkhead, who was described as 'limited at best' in Thursday's practice, joins Jeremy Hill and Sony Michel as the latest Patriots running back injury within just the first couple weeks of the season.

Unfortunately for Burkhead, it doesn't take an NFL general manager to read the writing on the wall on this one. If your team goes out and proactively inks a player that could replace an injured back, then it all but screams that your team doesn't think you're making it back to the field for the game this weekend.

Look for James White's production to steadily increase as the only running back from the Patriots' backfield that has avoided the injury bug this season. Barner is, of course, another option, but the veteran White is a much safer play if you're set on fielding someone from the Patriots' backfield this weekend.
