As this season comes to a close, it's becoming evident that the A's and Yankees will be facing each other in the American League Wild Card game.

The Yankees lead over the A's, who own the second Wild Card spot, is at 4.5 games, while they are 10 ahead of the Mariners. The A's currently have a 5.5-game lead over the Mariners for the second Wild Card spot.

The only thing keeping the A's from facing the Yankees in the Wild Card game would be their own success, as they currently sit 3.5 games behind the Astros for first place in the American League West.

As for tonight's matchup, J.A. Happ goes for the Yankees and he is looking to rebound after getting thrashed for 10 hits and five earned runs over 4.1 innings against the lowly Tigers. It’ll be interesting to see how Happ performs against stiffer competition, considering he won all five starts with the Yankees prior to that last outing.

The Yankees beat the A's in Oakland on Tuesday 5-1 behind a brilliant two-hit performance from JA Happ and some late-inning heroics from their offense.

It feels like this is going to be a close series and the Wild Card game should be no different. They have one more game tonight and that will be the last time they play before a possible playoff match up. Momentum is big heading into the playoffs, and tonight's showdown could play a big role in how these squads feel the next time they square off.
