The Yankees lead over the A's, who own the second Wild Card spot, is at 4.5 games, while they are 10 ahead of the Mariners. The A's currently have a 5.5-game lead over the Mariners for the second Wild Card spot.
The only thing keeping the A's from facing the Yankees in the Wild Card game would be their own success, as they currently sit 3.5 games behind the Astros for first place in the American League West.
As for tonight's matchup,
"No matter what we give up ... when you get two hits, you're going to have a tough time winning.”
