Jets rookie Frankie Luvu has had his dream of playing in the NFL quickly turn into a rude financial awakening.

In last week's preseason game against the Washington Redskins, Luvu laid a massive hit on QB Colt McCoy, a hit that resulted in a "roughing the passer" penalty, which can be seen below.

It was a clear penalty and an easy call. No player ever wants to be hit with a fine, but when you're a star player or even a league veteran making millions of dollars per year, that fine is much easier to swallow.

Unfortunately for Luvu, he is neither of those. When you then realize how much Luvu is making, the fine becomes all the more painful on his pockets.

As a player earning the NFL equivalent of making ends meet, Luvu is in a tough spot here. With only one more preseason game set on the schedule, he isn't guaranteed the salary to cover the fine. If Luvu does make the Jets 53-man roster (which it looks like he will) then essentially his entire first game check will go to paying off the fine. If Luvu does not end up making the team, then luckily for him the fine will be waived.

As much as the fine hurts, I think Luvu would much rather pay it if it came along with a real NFL contract.
