The San Francisco 49ers announced they signed a new offensive lineman through the NFL's International Player Program. Alfredo Gutierrez will join the team after spending the last 10 weeks training at the IMG Academy with other IPP players.
49ers News: Alfredo Gutierrez
Gutierrez grew up playing football in Mexico before moving to the U.S. after high school. He eventually went back home and joined Tec de Monterrey on a full athletic scholarship. Gutierrez won a National Championship during his time there and excelled at blocking in both the passing and running game.
The NFC West was chosen at random draw and became the fifth division to take part in this program since its inception in 2017. Gutierrez will take part in training camp with the 49ers and fight for a roster spot just like every other player.
If San Francisco decides that he will not make the active roster, it will be given an international player practice squad exemption to keep him on the team. Standing at 6'9" and weighing 336 pounds, Gutierrez definitely has the frame necessary to play in the NFL. In fact, he will be the tallest offensive lineman in the division.
Gutierrez will be a player to keep an eye on for the 49ers throughout training camp to see how he performs going up against some of the top talent in the sport of football.
