The Kansas City Royals have struggled throughout the 2022 MLB season, amassing a disappointing 22-41 record through 63 games. Although the majority of the season remains, it's likely far too late for them to turn things around.

With a playoff appearance being more than a long shot, the Royals will likely be sellers as the trade deadline approaches. With several veteran players worth moving, Kansas City will be happy to get back what it can if it helps build towards the future.

The MLB trade deadline is August 2, and these three Royals are the most likely to be moved before the first week in August.

Royals Trade Rumors

1. Zack Greinke, SP

After spending time with five teams over the previous 11 seasons, Zack Greinke returned to where it all began when he rejoined the Royals this offseason. Unfortunately, things haven't gone well for the six-time All-Star, going 0-4 with a 5.05 ERA in 10 starts. Despite the underwhelming performance, contending teams should still be interested in Greinke's services. He's a former Cy Young winner that brings 22 games (21 starts) of postseason experience to the table. He's also pitched three World Series games in his career, further adding to his case as to why he'd be an attractive deadline trade candidate.

2. Carlos Santana, 1B/DH

If the Royals opt to clean house, first baseman and designated hitter Carlos Santana could be another name to go. The 36-year-old switch-hitter is set to become a free agent at the end of the year and would likely love a chance to finally win a World Series ring. He's been struggling at the plate this season, recording just three home runs while batting .191 in 152 at-bats, but a change in scenery could be what he needs to turn things around.

3. Brad Keller, SP

Another starting pitcher that the Royals could ship off is Brad Keller. The 26-year-old leads the National League with eight losses this season while recording just one victory in 12 starts. Despite his struggles, his 4.74 ERA is an improvement over last year (5.39 ERA), as well as the fact that he's issuing fewer walks (2.3 vs. 4.3) and hits (9.4 vs. 10.6) per nine innings pitched. Keller is also arbitration-eligible for one more season, which could be attractive to teams looking for some extra control. Though wins have alluded him in 2022, Snellville, GA native could benefit from being moved.
