Patrick Peterson is a veteran NFL cornerback and has been a mainstay on the Arizona Cardinals' defense ever since he was drafted in the first round back in 2011. However, he heads into the offseason as a free agent and it's possible he leaves Arizona for the first time in his career.

A number of NFL teams would be interested in signing a player like Peterson as he would bring a lot of experience and knowledge into any cornerback room. With that in mind, here are the three most likely free agent destinations for Patrick Peterson.

3. Arizona Cardinals

There is no question that Peterson could easily take less money to re-sign with the team he has played for his entire career. He has been Arizona's defensive leader for many years and was a major reason the team was able to compete for a Wild Card spot throughout last season. With two star players in Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins now leading the offense, the Cardinals could make a push for the playoffs again next year. Joining along for another try would only make sense for the player that ranks sixth among all-time Cardinals players with 28 career interceptions.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

At this point in his career, Peterson is likely looking to sign with a contender and win a Super Bowl title. There is no better place to do that than in Kansas City. While the Chiefs boast a powerful offense, they lack depth when it comes to their defensive back positions. Adding a player like Peterson would give them a spark on defense and another true leader to pair with Tyrann Mathieu. Plus, Peterson's 8 passes defended last season would've ranked second-most on the Chiefs. Look for head coach Andy Reid and the front office to take a shot at signing Peterson.

1. New Orleans Saints

One team always looking to add veteran leadership to the defense is the New Orleans Saints. Imagine lining up one of the best young cornerbacks in Marshon Lattimore on one side of the field and proven shutdown corner in Peterson on the other. It would create nightmares for opposing receivers. Peterson's 3 interceptions last season would've tied for the team lead on the Saints. That only proves that he is still an impactful defensive player and adding him to an already strong New Orleans defense would take them to another level.
