Week 9 of the college football season brought us our first round of major cuts from the running list of College Football Playoff national contenders by the odds, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

In fact, a total of 27 teams saw their odds to win the 2020 CFP disappear from the futures list between Week 9 and Week 10, including the likes of undefeated No. 15 SMU and No. 20 Appalachian State.

First College Football Playoff Rankings

With less than one week until the CFP Committee releases its first CFP Top-25 Poll Rankings of the season next Tuesday, Nov. 5 between 9-9:30 p.m. EST, the odds race to win this year's playoff has been whittled down to just 19 teams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Starting from the top, Clemson (+175) and Alabama (+250) both watched as their once-commanding lead in the odds to win the 2020 CFP has significantly dwindled with Ohio State improving to +300 after sitting as low as +1600 in early September.

Oklahoma's unbeaten season came to an end in Week 9, as the Sooners were shocked in a 48-41 loss to a 22-point underdog Kansas State, which dropped the Sooners from +1100 to +2000 in the latest odds.

Among the other survivors in the odds, we watched a total of four top-15 teams go down in last weekend's slate, with Auburn, Wisconsin and Notre Dame taking the hardest falls among that company.

Despite keeping things interesting with the No. 1 team in the land in a 23-20 loss to LSU in Death Valley, Auburn plunged from +6000 to +25000 in the latest odds to win 2020 CFP. Wisconsin and Notre Dame both dropped by +10000 to join Auburn in a three-way tie for the worst remaining odds to win it all.

Iowa, Oregon and Michigan headline the list of Week 9's biggest winners by the odds. The Hawkeyes pummeled Northwestern, 20-0, in Evanston on Saturday, and they were rewarded with a massive jump from +25000 to +15000 in the latest odds.

The Ducks improved from +11000 to +5000, while the Michigan steamrolled then-No. 8 Notre Dame, 45-14, which sent the Wolverines' CFP odds soaring from +14000 to +10000.
