Saturday, May 4 marks the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby. The Derby is the crown jewel of horse racing and the date on the calendar everyone circles.

The famous race features the best three-year-old thoroughbreds in the world and is the first leg of horse racing's most sought after prize, the Triple Crown.

Horses start the qualifying process for the Derby when they're two years old. A point system helps determine who will run in the Derby, with races spread across USA, Europe, UAE and Japan.

Below is a list of odds for potential contestants to win the Kentucky Derby from TVG.

Game Winner is the No. 1 contender. Trained by the legendary Bob Baffert, Game Winner grabbed a win at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and finished 2nd in the Rebel Stakes Division 2.

After Game Winner, you have a group of horses within the same range, currently projected with odds between 10 to 1 and 15 to 1, which includes Hidden Scroll, Code of Honor, Vekoma and War of Will.

War of Will is one of the more experienced conteders, already with eight races under his belt.

Finally we have Improbable, the other horse trained by Bob Baffert. Improbable is the son of City Zip. While he was unable to race in the Breeders' Cup, Improbable dominated lower-level races, beating other Derby hopefuls like Mucho Gusto comfortably in the Los Alamitos Futurity.

While the field is not completely set yet and could see horses on the above list both removed and added before May 4, the Derby can still guarantee its reputation as the most exciting two minutes in sports.
