The New York Yankees will have ground to make up after the MLB All-Star break. New York is currently 8.0 games back of the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East and 3.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot. A move at the trade deadline is one way to give this roster a boost, although getting 100% healthy would be huge for a late-season playoff push too.

Well, the Yankees got an optimistic injury update on Sunday regarding starter Luis Severino.

Luis Severino Injury Update

The 27-year-old participated in some bullpen work this past week and appears to be "trending in the right direction," which is great to hear. The team hoped that Severino could return this month, but a groin injury stalled his rehab assignment at High-A in June. Now that he's making progress, Severino could be back in the minors soon once he faces live hitters again.

Severino could play a big role down the stretch in deciding the Yankees' playoff hopes. He was coming off of two straight All-Star selections before being sidelined indefinitely in 2019 due to Tommy John surgery.

New York still may need to make some moves while Severino continues his rehab in order to solidify their roster for a postseason push. The Yankees have tumbled down the odds to win the World Series at +2500, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
