The Milwaukee Brewers raced into the MLB postseason on the backs of some phenomenal starting pitching, particularly from MLB ERA leader Corbin Burnes.
Burnes was magnificent during the 2021 campaign and posted a 2.43 ERA across 28 starts. The fourth-year ace is one of three finalists vying for the NL Cy Young award, which will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Not only did Milwaukee's ace enjoy a league-leading performance in 2021, but his numbers were truly historic. And that's exactly why he should win the Cy Young award on Tuesday night.
Corbin Burnes Cy Young
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Burnes became the first pitcher in the modern era to rank top-3 in MLB in strikeouts per nine, walks per nine and home runs allowed per nine. His 12.6 strikeouts per nine and 0.37 HR per nine led all of baseball, while his 1.8 walks per nine ranked third.
It truly was a fantastic season for the Brewers ace and there's a strong case for him to walk away with the hardware tonight. Entering the final month of the season, Burnes ranked second (+180) in FanDuel's odds to win the Cy Young, behind only Max Scherzer (-260).
