The Chicago White Sox have been one of the best teams in baseball despite dealing with a rash of injuries this season. While there's nothing to suggest that Chicago is going to slow down any time soon, the White Sox did get some more scary injury news on Sunday.
This time, 2020 AL MVP Jose Abreu was the player to go down.
Abreu got hit by a pitch and struggled to put weight on his knee while walking off the field. Thankfully, X-rays were negative, so the injury might not have been as bad as it looked.
While it looks as if he escaped without a fracture or break, he is dealing with a bruised left knee. He's listed as day-to-day, suggesting he could miss a game or two in the coming days.
Abreu hasn't been nearly as dominant as he was in his MVP campaign due to injury troubles this year, but he's still been a reliable source of pop for Chicago. He's slashing .239/.318/.432 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs in 71 games this year. Hopefully he can get back on track when he returns.
The White Sox currently own the second-best odds (+700) to win the 2021 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
