The Chicago White Sox are limping to the finish line.

Not only have they fallen eight games behind the Cleveland Guardians in a once-tight AL Central race, but they've also lost multiple key players as the season draws to a close.

Chicago White Sox News

The White Sox announced on Saturday that outfielder Luis Robert will go on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left wrist. The injury likely explains Roberts' recent funk at the plate, as he was just 1-for-23 (.044) in September before going on the IL.

Robert will not return this season, and based on where Chicago is at in the standings, neither will some of his teammates. All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson is also a candidate to be shut down, as he has not played since Aug. 6 due to a finger injury.

Starting pitcher Michael Kopech is on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation and may not return before the season is over, either. He's already nearly doubled his previous MLB innings high, so there's no need to push him.

With the White Sox still without Hall-of-Fame manager Tony La Russa due to a medical issue as well, the team is wise to let its players recover and get a head start on preparing for 2023. This clearly wasn't Chicago's year, as the roster has been ravaged by injuries all season and never seemed to be at full strength.

The White Sox hope better luck and health will help them return to the top of the standings next year. They finished first in the AL Central in 2021 after winning 93 games, so the talent is there. They just need to keep it on the field.
