The Detroit Lions will attempt to win their first game of the season when they host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8 NFL action. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Eagles slated as 3.5-point road favorites in a game that is full of big name fantasy football players.
If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's some start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 8 NFC clash.
Devonta Smith Fantasy
Start Devonta Smith, WR, Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles used their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Devonta Smith to be their No. 1 wide receiver. He has certainly filled in that role well. The rookie out of Alabama leads Philadelphia in targets (53), receptions (32) and receiving yards (406). He is quarterback Jalen Hurts' favorite target and now gets to face a subpar Lions' passing defense. Detroit has given up the fourth-most receiving yards to opposing wideouts this year to go along with an average of 15.7 yards per reception. Smith should have no problem dicing up this secondary. He has WR2 upside in Week 8.
TJ Hockenson Fantasy
Start TJ Hockenson, TE, Detroit Lions: Fantasy managers have been getting worried about TJ Hockenson's production, but the volume is still there. The third-year pro has seen 20 targets over the last two games and turned them into 14 receptions for 122 yards. Yes, he hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 2. However, the Eagles have already allowed 6 touchdowns to opposing TEs this season. That is tied for the highest mark in the NFL. Hockenson remains to go-to option in this passing attack and ranks as the TE4 in PPR scoring leagues. Start him with confidence on Sunday.
Boston Scott Fantasy
Sit Boston Scott, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: Running back Boston Scott is going to be a popular waiver wire pickup this week due to the injury suffered by starter Miles Sanders. That doesn't mean he is an automatic start in fantasy football, though. Scott is projected to take on most of the ground work, but rookie Kenny Gainwell has proven he is the best receiving RB on the team. That leaves little upside for the fourth-year pro. Keep in min that Scott is stuck on a team that averages the fifth-fewest rushing attempts per game this year (23.4). While Scott is a great depth player to stash on the bench, that is all for right now.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Fantasy
Sit Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions: Philadelphia's defense has not played up to expectations so far this season, yet they have been tough against opposing wide receivers. In fact, the Eagles are allowing the fifth-fewest PPR fantasy points to the position. Opposing teams have also targeted a wide receiver 111 times against Philadelphia, which is the third-lowest mark in the NFL. That is not good news for Lions' top target Amon-Ra St. Brown. The rookie has only racked up 161 yards over the last three weeks despite seeing a respectable 23 targets. His 8.5 yards per reception average is not enough to warrant a start this week.
